Orlov krš, hillock that dominates on south-east part of Cetinje field, was erected mausoleum of bishop Danilo, founder of the new Monastery of Cetinje and of the dynasty Petrović-Njegoš. The tomb was made in honour of two hundred years of rule of Petrović dynasty.

Bishop Danilo was buried at Monastery Podostrog near Budva, and his bones were moved to Cetinje in 1853, during the reign of Prince Danilo. Mausoleum was built in 1896, according the idea and plan of princess Jelena, future Italian queen. Design was made by French architect Fruses. The Mausoleum was built from stone from Ljubović, and the works were supervised by engineer Andrija Radović, workers were from Korčula and Montenegro.

Owing to its successful architectural design, the monument has almost become one with Orlov krš, making it the most distinguishable and dominant symbol of Cetinje. The monument is raised at artificial plateau, arranged as a small park, at its very edge so it would be visible from town.

On a front wide stone fascia with the inscription, there is a monumental stone sarcophagus with a prominently displayed cross, and three steps leading up to it. On the top of the sarcophagus, in relief, symbols of the Bishop Danilo’s spiritual and state rule are represented. On the sides of the sarcophagus there are stylised ornaments and symbols – a cross, a circle and a flower. On the eastern side, in a circular medallion, a bronze relief of the bishop’s profile is displayed.

Over the sarcophagus, supported by four lean pillars, raises the canopy which represents sky. Canopy rests on the pillars by four multiple profiled arches whose centres each contain a larger stone with relief displays of different cots of arms: state, family and bishop. Plaster cuffs decorated by stylised flowers, the vault is divided into four segments with a larger rosette in the centre. The sky is portrayed by golden stars at blue background.

Asphalt road from the south-western side of Orlov krš takes to the plateau with monument.
